The PJBT continued its 17th season with our First Adult/Junior Event of the Season. This adult junior is a kickoff to the Danny Wiseman Scholarship Tournament Weekend for the 2nd straight year. This year we saw many more teams come out from last year. We had 63 teams or 126 bowlers competing for the large prizes. We saw 40 scratch teams and 23 Handicap Teams.
The format was 5 games of qualifying. The top 40% of teams in each division advance to Round 2. Round 2 was 3 additional games of qualifying. After 8 Games, the top 4 teams advanced to the bracket final. Bracket Final was 1 game head-to-head match between seeds 1 & 4 / 2 & 3. Winners advanced to bowl each other for the title.
In Scratch, Christian Francis and Chris Richardson captured the Scratch title. The road to victory was very interesting. Francis & Richardson was near the top of the pack all day. They were in the top 5 of teams after qualifying. In Round 2, they shot 409 and 421 and were starting to slide down the board. In Game 8, they shot a clutch 521 team game which boosted them back up the board and into a dead TIE for the last finals spot. They were tied for 4th place with Thomas Gunter III and Thomas Gunter Jr. They went head-to-head in a 2 frame roll-off to determine who would advance. Francis/Richardson won the roll-off and never looked back!! As the 4th seed in the finals, they took on #1 seed Kasey Sullivan / Chad Gable. Francis/Richardson got off to a quick start and never looked back. They defeated Sullivan/Gable 487-406 and advanced to the title match vs #3 seed Sarah Kirch / CJ Costa. Kirch & Costa defeated Alexis Neuer & Andy Neuer in the other semi-final match 499-438. In the title match, Kirch and Costa both got off to rough starts and Francis/Richardson cruised to victory. In the title match, Francis/Richardson defeated Kirch/Costa 438-305. Francis took home the $250 top scholarship prize while Richardson won $150 top prize.
In Handicap, Javion Norman & Samuel Norman took home the title. The Norman’s were also near the top of the scoreboard all day and was the #2 seed after 8 Games of Qualifying. They shot 3459 for 8 games or was +259. In the bracket final, Norman/Norman took on #3 seed Shania & Rob Jennings. This match was a classic. It came down to the last ball in the 10th frame. However, Norman/Norman survived…winning the match 394-391. In the other semi-final, 4th seed Caleb & Brian Funnell defeated #1 seed Walter Tomlin II & Sr 448-327. In the title match, Norman/Norman and outlasted Funnell/Funnell. Norman defeated Funnell 428-402 to take home the title. Javion Norman won $250 top scholarship prize and Samuel Norman won $150 top prize.
Congratulations also to Kasey Sullivan who shot an 11 in a row 299 during qualifying.
