The PJBT continued its 18th Season with a memorable event.  Every year, the PJBT has one 8-Game Marathon Event.  Not only was this event unique for his different format….but the PJBT was celebrating its 600th PJBT event.  It has hard to believe that our series from 1999 to Now has run 600 youth tournaments!

The format for this event was 8 Games of Qualifying for everyone.  After 8 games, the top 8 bowlers in each division advanced to a bracket final.  In the bracket final, it was single elimination head-to-head matches of 2 games, total pins.  1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, and 4 vs 5 were matched up.  Bracket went from 8 bowlers to 4 to 2 to a winner for the event.   The winner in each division was guaranteed a $600 scholarship for our 600th event and payouts for everyone else were based on entries like a normal event.

We also conducted this event on WTBA Paris Pattern.  On this day, we saw 88 athletes take to the lanes.  Of the 88, 63 competed in Scratch and 25 in Handicap.

For the 5th straight week, Scratch Division saw a winner come from a hometown other than Pennsylvania!  Ryan Carlisi, of New Jersey, took home the title.  Carlisi put on a dominate performance on this day.  He literally paced the field for the entire day.  He only rolled 1 subpar game during qualifying.  He started off with 7 strong games of 255, 253, 277, 230, 254, 229, and 227.  He led the event from Game 2 thru 7.  Game 8 he shot 170 and lost the lead of the event to Connor Kolessides.  Carlisi was the #2 seed entering the bracket final.  Carlisi took on #7 seed Isaac Erickson in Round of 8.  Carlisi shot 265 Game 1 of the match and never looked back.  Carlisi defeated Erickson 442-362.  In the Round of 4 semi-final, Carlisi took on #3 seed Joey Ciufo.  Again, Carlisi got off to an early lead and never looked back.  Carlisi defeated Ciufo 402-322.  This propelled Carlisi into the title match vs #8 seed Jack Celmer.  Celmer was accomplishing the improbable.  He defeated #1 seed Connor Kolessides and #4 seed Dylan Zimmerman by 1 pin entering the finals.  In the final, Carlisi shot 258 game 1 and took a 35 pin lead.  Game 2 he paced with Celmer to maintain his lead and win.  Carlisi defeated Celmer in the title match 469-435.  Carlisi took home the $600 top scholarship prize and trophy for the win.

We also paid out the top 11 bowlers in scratch due to great amount of entries.  A total of over $2000 went out.  We also had so many girls bowling scratch on this day that we elected to payout a scholarship to the top finishing girl in qualifying, which was Alexis Neuer.

In Handicap, Breanne Hood, captured her 6th career PJBT title.  For a young girl, she is on a roll!  Hood entered the event with a 115 average and 76 pins handicap per game.  She shot scratch qualifying games of 124, 150, 165, 123, 122, 135, 88, and 113.  After 8 Games, Hood was in 4th place.  She only trailed tournament leader Matthew Meehan, 2nd seed MariBeth Baker, and 3rd seed Brendan Hunsicker.  In the Round of 8, Hood took on #5 seed Darren Zombro III.  Hood shot games of 226 and 246 with her handicap to win this match by over 100 pins.  Hood defeated Zombro III 472-370.  In the Round of 4, Hood took on #1 seed Matthew Meehan.  This match was a shot-for-shot match.  Hood won Game 1 of the match by just 2 pins and then game 2 by just 7 pins.  Hood defeated Meehan 443-434.  This put her in the title match vs #6 seed Kyle Bowersox.  Based on average, Hood received the handicap of 56.  She beat Kyle both games scratch!  She shot 184 and 165 in the title match.   Hood defeated Bowersox 461-283.  Breanne took home the $600 top prize and trophy for the win.

Congrats also to Jarrett Defalco, who shot a perfect game of 300 during Game 1 of Qualifying.  However, he was not in the 300 Pot….so it carries over to next week.

Next week:  PJBT rolls into York, PA, for a regular season singles event at Colony Park Lanes North.  Sunday, Sept 25 at 10:30am.
