The PJBT continued its 19th Season with a return trip to Hiester Lanes in Reading, PA.  This event was our final 21 & Under Doubles Event of the year.  On this day, 94 bowlers or 47 teams took to the lanes.  We had 23 teams in scratch and 24 teams in Handicap.  This event was conducted on the Kegel Recreational Main Street Pattern.  Format was 5 games, top 40% of teams (10) advanced to Round 2.  Round 2 was 3 games of additional qualifying.  At the completion of 8 games, the top 5 teams advanced to the baker style stepladder finals.

In Scratch, Daniel Althouse & Sam Bortnick brought home the win in dramatic fashion.  The win was Althouse’s 4th on the season and 6th career title.  For Bortnick, it was his 3rd career title and 2nd of the season.  Althouse/Bortnick stood 3rd after qualifying with team games of 459, 422, 523, 415, and 380.  The first round 10th place cut was +96 for 5.  In Round 2, they shot 464, 432, and 488 to take the tournament lead.  They led the field into the exciting finals.  In the title match, Althouse/Bortnick took on Gene Blair & Jack Celmer in a classic match with victory and player of the year implications on the line.  Both teams struck early and often in the title match.  At one point, Blair/Celmer had the front 7.  However, an open frame in the 8th opened the door for Althouse/Bortnick.  Althouse finished out their baker game of 247 and all Blair/Celmer needed was a mark to win.  Jack Celmer did not make his best shot of the match and on the first shot left a split.  He gave it a valiant effort but was not able to convert the split.  Final Score was 247-246 in favor of Althouse /Bortnick.  Daniel Althouse & Sam Bortnick each won $200 scholarship and plaque for their win.

In Handicap, Kalli Bzdil & Cameron Carl brought home the victory.  Bzdil/Carl entered the event with a 299 team average and 90 pins handicap per game.  Bzdil/Carl didn’t start off fast.  They bowled team games of 375, 293, 312, 309, and 308.  After 5 games, Bzdil/Carl was seeded 9th of 10 teams entering Round 2.  They were over 100 pins off the leaders.  Round 2 is where they made their run.  They shot 348, 341, and 343 scratch.  They propelled their team from 9th to 2nd entering the finals.  They only trailed tournament leaders Bradley Ruth/Patrick Hoffmaster.  Bzdil/Carl entered the finals in the semi-final match was #3seed Cole Reigel/Tevon Kerr.  Bzdil/Carl was able to win this match 190-171 to advance to the final.  In another exciting final…. Bzdil/Carl squeaked out a title match victory over Ruth/Hoffmaster 201-196.  Kalli Bzdil & Cameron Carl won a $200 scholarship and plaque for their win.  This was Kalli’s 2nd career PJBT title and 1st this year.  Cameron won his 1st ever PJBT title.

No honor scores bowled on this day so 300 Pot carries over to next week.
