The PJBT’s 18th season made its first of two stops at Colony Park Lanes North in York. With most of the usual team at a wedding, Travis and Jen were back in the saddle as tournament directors for a day.
You can make it nine straight regular season events that the scratch winner has come from outside the Keystone State’s borders. In the last three events of 2015-2016, New Jersey and Virginia bowlers were victorious. This season, Virginia, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and now Maryland has invaded the winner’s circle. Christian Francis of Baltimore overcame a late mistake to win his third PJBT title. He qualified 6th, with games of 193, 211, 215, 257, and 246. He won all three of his matches, rolling 235, 256, and 236, and earned the top seed entering stepladders. #4 Jason Waltman won the first two matches, defeating Zack Dragovits, 227-203, and #3 Gene Blair, 277-214. #2 Dylan Zimmerman won the semifinal over Waltman, 208-168. Francis and Zimmerman were even through eight frames, with one getting tapped as much as the other. Francis missed a 10-pin in the 9th. Zimmerman spared and struck in the 10th for 214, forcing Francis to get all 30 in the tenth. All three strikes were flush for the 215-214 win, and the $200 scholarship for first.
You only needed to go about three miles north and no further than our host Terry Brenneman’s family for the handicap winner. His granddaughter, Madison Brenneman, won her first title. She qualified 4th, rolling above her 146 average every game, with 169, 167, 178, 157, and 172. She won two of three matches, shooting 187, 154, and 184, and moved up to third place. Logan Chappell and Addison Lesher needed a tiebreaker for the #5 seed. Chappell doubled to advance. #4 Kyle Bowersox beat Chappell, 179-168, but lost to Brenneman in the next match, 210-154. Brenneman then defeated #2 Jocelyn Hood, 204-175. In a scratch match against top-seed Emma Parenteau, Brenneman only had one open in the first nine frames. She won 163-137, and took home the $200 top scholarship prize.
300 pot carries forward at $71.
Next week, it’s our first adult/junior and first trip to Northeastern PA, as we spend the day at Chacko’s Family Bowling Center… Sunday, October 2nd at 10:30AM.
