Hometown Bowlers Farwell & Maulfair Win at Clearview

The PJBT continued its 18th Season with a trip to Clearview Lanes in Mount Joy, PA.  This event was our last event before the 2016 Xmas Holiday.  The event saw 36 bowlers take on the house shot pattern in a normal 5-Game Singles Format.  We had 16 bowlers in Scratch and 20 in Handicap.

In Scratch, local hometown bowler, Olivia Farwell, captured her 2nd title of the year and 5th career PJBT title.  Farwell showed that she has the ability to compete with the boys anytime!  She shot games of 256, 247, 258, 202, and 205.  Farwell stood at +168 and was the tournament leader by just 1 pin over 2nd seed Jack Celmer.  Jack took home $137 scholarship in Game 1 of qualifying….when he shot a perfect game of 300!  The top 8 bowlers advanced to match play and the cut was +57.  Farwell pulled away from the field in match play.  She went 3-0 with games of 258, 237, and 237.  She was the tournament leader by exactly 100 pins entering the stepladder final.  The title match was bittersweet for Farwell.  In the title match, she took on good friend Kurtis Stidd.  Earlier in the year, Farwell captured her first title of the year with Stidd in our doubles event.  Well someone had to win this local friendly battle….and it went to Farwell.  She shot 237 and defeated Stidd who had 213.  Farwell won the $200 top scholarship prize and plaque for victory.

In Handicap, another local hometown bowler, Ethan Maulfair, captured his 1st PJBT title in just his 1st ever event.  Maulfair had quite a route to victory.  It was a challenge!  Ethan entered the event was a 153 average and 42 pins per game.  He almost didn’t make the first cut.  Ethan had scratch games of 156, 155, 200, 148, and 171.  Maulfair stood at +40 and was tied for the final advance spot with Brett Hillman!  They both competed in a 2-frame rolloff to brake the tie and Maulfair won the rolloff.  This advanced him into match play as the 8th and final seed.  His win in the rolloff fueled his run.  He went 3-0 in match play with games of 207, 247, and 189.  Those great games boosted him into the 3rd seed position entering the stepladder final.  He only trailed tournament leader Tyler Lappa and #2 seed Jacob Ricketts.  Maulfair won 3 matches to take home the title.  He first defeated Brandon Stark 201-175.  In the semi-final, Maulfair beat Ricketts 212-173.  In the title match, Maulfair outlasted Tyler Lappa 204-193 to take home the title.  Maulfair won a top prize of $200 scholarship and plaque for his win.
