The PJBT continued its 21st Season with a trip to Harrisburg, PA & ABC East Lanes for our first ever Fall Baker Tournament.  Two seasons ago, we held our first Baker event.  The baker events have been successful over our past two years in the spring of each season.  This year we decided to have two events with this format….adding a fall baker event.

This year’s 1st Fall Baker Event was a good success.  We had 19 teams of 5 or 95 bowlers competing.  The weather played a small part in our commute for the day.  On a day when the forecast only said rain in the morning….we saw a rain/snow/sleet mix and just enough to make the ground white!  Despite that, 95 bowlers took to the lanes in a baker format of 24 games qualifying.  After 24 games, the scratch division had the top 2 teams bowl off for the title.  In Handicap, the top 4 teams remaining after qualifying did a 1-4, 2-3 match and then winners bowled each other for the title.  The final matches were single elimination — first team to win 2 games of 3.  We had 7 Scratch Teams and 12 Handicap Teams.

In Scratch, the team who called themselves “Milk Chocolate 2.0” brought home the win.  The team was made up of Gene Blair, Troy Owens, Brian Kennedy, Alex Horton, and Brandon Bohn.  During qualifying, Milk Chocolate 2.0 had a solid 3rd place position of the 7 teams for most of the day.  After 12 of 24 qualifying games, they were in 3rd and over 100 pins out of 2nd place cut.  They began a run for 2nd place in Game 15 with a 211 game.  Then, they also shot 245 in Game 19, 206 in Game 20, and 234 in Game 21.  On a day when scores were low… these games propelled them into 2nd place and the finals.  They only trailed the team of “5 of a Kind.” (Dan Althouse, Francis Vitelli, Alex Glinski, Justin Bohn, Parker Laubach)  Despite losing Game 1 in the title match, Milk Chocolate 2.0 won the next 2 games against 5 of a Kind to win.  Scores were 167-202, 212-199, and 213-172.  Each bowler received a $200 individual scholarship and plaque for their win.

In Handicap, the team of “Breadsticks” (Riley Smith, Clayton Tyndall, Ian Smith, Jaxson Kohler, and Ryan Steinheimer) bowled their way to victory.  The Breadsticks team had a team average of 759 and received 43 pins per baker game handicap.   Their highest scratch game in Qualifying came in Game 2 with 173.   Their other good qualifying games were 162 in Game 20 and 158 in Game 13.  After 24 games, they were at -629 and was seeded 3rd entering the 4 team final.  In the semi-final, Breadsticks took on #2 seed Surprise (David Swavely, CJ Laubach, Tevon Kerr, Haley Brown, Brandon Updike).  Breaksticks won Game 1 of their match 173-155 but lost Game 2 in an epic match 127-128…forcing a Game 3.  Game 3 saw Breaksticks win 177-129 to advance into the finals.  In the title match, Breadsticks took on Conestoga Valley High School #2 (CVHS #2).  Breadsticks once again won Game 1 162-135 but lost Game 2 to CVHS #2 118-146.  This forced a 3rd and final game in which Breadsticks outlasted CVHS #2 180-176 to win the title.  Each bowler received a $200 individual scholarship and plaque for their victory.

Thanks to all 95 Bowlers who came out – We gave out over $3200 in scholarships on this day!
