The PJBT continued its 19th Season with a CELEBRATION!  This event was like no event the PJBT has run before!  This event was our $1 MILLION dollar celebration event….combined with our traditional #7 Major on Super Bowl Sunday!  On this day, the PJBT celebrated hitting the $1 million dollar plateau in scholarship given away over the 19+ seasons.  We are so very proud to have assisted our youth in furthering their education with all the scholarship events we have had over 19 years.  On this day, we remembered all the sponsors and bowlers/parents who supported PJBT since we started in  1999

For this special event, we held our normal Major #7 format (6 games, top 40% bowled 3 games of match play….top 6 advance to NFL Bracket Final).  However, thanks to our sponsor Lane Tamers Pro Shop and MAPS Scholarship Portal….we gave out $500 for first in each division.  In addition, we gave a scholarship to EVERY BOWLER WHO MADE THE FIRST CUT from qualifying.  In all, 20 bowlers in Scratch cashed in this unique prize list and 12 in Handicap.  A record over $4,000 in scholarships for a regular season singles event was given out!

The pattern for the event was a unique created Kegel Pattern that was shorter in length.  The event had 76 athletes competing including 50 in Scratch and 26 in Handicap.

In Scratch, Anthony Neuer of Lewisburg, PA took home the top prize.  Neuer, a member of Team USA, started off the day in qualifying with 233.  He was up and down in qualifying after that.  He shot 181, 133, 221, 188, and 170.  After qualifying, he stood at 1126 (-74) and was seeded 10th out of 20 advancing to match play.  The first round cut for qualifying 20th place was -118.  Neuer went 2-1 in match play with games of 212, 243, and 196.  These strong games propelled Neuer into 3rd place entering the finals.  In this finals format….the top 2 received a bye.  So Neuer was the highest seed that needed to win 3 matches to win the title.  That is what he did!  In his quarterfinal match, Neuer defeated #6 Daniel Althouse 196-147.  This advanced him to take on the #2 seed Tom Hankey.  Neuer got off to a quick start and never looked back!  Neuer convincingly defeated Hankey 238-192.  This advanced Neuer to take on the #4 seed Gene Blair in the final.  Blair advanced to the final by defeating #1 seed Michael Martell in his semi-final 192-181.  The title match was Neuer vs Blair.  Both bowlers struggled in the match….it was a survival of the fittest.  In the end, Neuer outlasted Blair 173-148 to take home the Major Win.  Anthony Neuer won a $500 scholarship and Glass Bowling Pin for his major title.

In Handicap, Bethany Jaquith took home the win.  Jaquith entered the event with a 108 average and 82 pins handicap per game.  She shot scratch qualifying games of 119, 126, 105, 126, 88, and 87.  After 6, she stood at 1143 (-57) and was seeded 5th out of 12 bowlers advancing to match play.  The 12th place qualifying cut was -114.  Jaquith went 2-1 in match play with games of 111, 110, and 148.  After 9, Bethany moved up to 4th place entering the finals.  She, similar to Anthony, had to win 3 matches to reach victory.  And she did!  Her first match was a defeat of #5 seed Sarah Fenicle 188-165.  She advanced to take on tournament leader Raymond Zhou.  Jaquith shot her highest game of the day and won the match 253-217.  This advanced her to the title match to take on #2 seed Morgan Kline.  This match came down to the final shot! Kline needed a mark in the 10th frame to shut out Jaquith and she sadly missed her spare.  This gave Jaquith the victory while sitting on the bench.  Final match was 133-129.  Bethany Jaquith won a $500 scholarship and Glass Bowling Pin for her Major win.

Over 35 of our 79 bowlers won scholarships on this day….including the the top 3 girls on the day….including Kiearra Saldi, Olivia Farwell, and Chloe Skurzynski.

Following the event, The Philadelphia Eagles made history winning their first Super Bowl in Franchise History.  PJBT assistant director, Brittany Himmelreich, a hardcore Eagles Fan, cried in joy!
