Russo and Delong win pop tomek memorial

The PJBT rolled into ABC West Lanes for the 9th Edition of the Pop Tomek Memorial Scholarship Tournament. This event, normally a spring tradition, was moved to the fall this year to accomodate the bowling center…as they host the PA State Men’s Bowling Tournament in 2015.In Scratch, Matthew Russo of Millstone, Nj, captured his 1st PJBT title in his first PJBT event. 37 bowlers in scratch took on the Cheetah Pattern in this year’s event. Russo sat 2nd after 6 games of qualifying at +63. In the final, Russo did not lose a game…winning all 6 games in bowled. In the top 16 bracket final, #2 Russo took on #15 Ethan Resh. He quickly won this match 2-0 with scores of 213 and 234. In the round of 8, #2 Russo took on #7 Tristan Leyen. Russo shot 236 and 203 and defeated Leyen 2-0. In the semi-final, #2 Russo took on #12 Alden Everett. Russo defeated Everett 279-146. This advanced him to the title game vs #8 Chris Dipaola. Russo got out to an early lead and never looked back. Russo defeated DiPaola in the title match 226-145. Russo took home $300 top prize.In Handicap, Samantha DeLong put on a dominant performance. 40 Handicap Bowlers took to the lanes on this day. DeLong took the lead early and never looked back. After qualifying, DeLong led with +40. In the bracket final, DeLong took on #16 Riley Celmer. It took 3 games but DeLong defeated DeLong 210-190, 143-202, 166-150. In the Round of 8, #1 DeLong took on #8 Chris McCormick. She defeated McCormick 2-0 after winning a tie in Game 1. They tied at 171 but DeLong won the tiebreaker 50-38. She then won game 2 173-149 and took the match. In the Semi-final, #1 Samantha DeLong took on her sister #11 Carlie DeLong! We knew a DeLong would win….but Samantha came out on top….winning 167-114. In the title match, #1 S DeLong took on #15 Trey Gordon. DeLong got an early lead and coasted to the title….defeating Gordon 219-120. DeLong also took home a $300 top prize.
