Rynes & Rhodes Wins First Ever Bonus Payout PJBT Event in Baltimore Area

The PJBT held its 1st Ever Bonus Payout Tournament in Maryland as a singles event.  This event, sponsored by Shotmakers Pro Shop & Lane Tamers Pro Shop, was conducted at the same center as the Danny Wiseman Scholarship Tournament held in the fall of each year.  This event saw 40 bowlers compete for scholarship prizes….20 in each division.  Format was our normal 5 game singles format with 40% of the bowlers (top 10 on this day) advancing to 3 Games of Match Play.  Top 5 bowlers advance to stepladder final.

In the Scratch Division, Ben Rynes of Forest Hill, MD, captured his 1st ever PJBT title.  Rynes was the leader of the tournament after 5 games of qualifying.  He shot 1113 or +113.  Top 10 cut was -13.  Rynes entered match play and lost his lead in the final game of match play.  He took on Donald Bock who defeated him.  Bock became the tournament leader entering the finals while Rynes was seeded 2nd.    In the semi-final of the stepladder, Rynes took on #3 seed Zachary Dragovits.  Rynes defeated Dragovits 214-182 to setup a re-match with Bock for the title.  In the final match, Rynes got his revenge.  Rynes defeated Bock 244-192 to take home the title and the $500 top scholarship prize.

In the Handicap Division, Emily Rhodes of Baltimore, MD, captured her 1st PJBT title.  Rhodes was seeded 3rd after the 5 games of qualifying with a score of 1037 or +37.  She only trailed tournament leader Xavier Bock & 2nd seed Noah Pearce.  In match play, Rhodes won 2 of 3 matches and boosted her position to the 2nd seed entering the final.  The leader remained Xavier Bock with Emily right behind.  In the semi-final stepladder match, Rhodes took on 4th seed Jennifer Williams.  Williams had already won her first 2 stepladder matches.  Rhodes and Williams both struggled in this semi-final but Rhodes out-bowled Williams 176-135.  Rhodes then advanced to bowl Xavier Bock in the title match.  Rhodes got off to a hot start while Bock struggled to get going.  In the end, Rhodes defeated Bock 181-151 to take home the title and the $500 top scholarship prize.

No honor scores were bowled on this day…advancing our 300 Pot to a carryover of $137 for next week.
