Rynes & Soluri Both Walk the Ladder To Victory at SBOR

The PJBT continued its 18th season with a trip to Southern York, PA, and Suburban Bowlerama.  This event was a regular season singles event on a house shot pattern.  On this day, we saw 41 bowlers take to the lanes.  We had 21 competing in Scratch and 20 in Handicap.

In Scratch, Ben Rynes of Maryland, captured his 1st title of the season.  This year, the PJBT has had 9 different winners in 10 events in Scratch and Rynes added his name to the list of non-PA resident winners.  We have now had 9 of 10 events won by bowlers non living in PA, the base state for PJBT.  Rynes started off qualifying slow with a 160 game.  He regrouped and never looked back.  His remaining 4 qualifying games were 269 239, 203, and 269.  After 5, Rynes sat at 1140 (+140) and was in 5th place out of 10 advancing to match play.  First round cut was +96.  Rynes went 2-1 in match play, shooting games of 229, 248, and 236.  Rynes maintained the #5 seed position entering the finals.  To win, he would have to walk the ladder….which he did!  Match 1…he defeated Dylan Zimmerman213-207.  Match 2 saw Rynes take down Andrew Lazarchick 267-238.  Match 3 also went to Rynes 234-227 over Tyler Dautrich.  In the title match, Rynes defeated tournament leader Olivia Farwell 225-217 to take home the title and the $200 top scholarship prize.

In Handicap, Elle Soluri captured her 1st ever PJBT title in similar fashion!  She entered the event with a 117 entering average and 74 pins handicap a game.  She bowled scratch games of 159, 173, 138, 124, and 145.  After 5 games, she stood in 4th place at 1109 (+109).  1st Round Handicap Cut was +9.  She only went 1-2 in match play but still rolled games of 139, 171, and 113.  It was enough to maintain her 5th place position entering the stepladder finals.  Similar to Rynes….Soluri walked the ladder!  She first defeated #4 seed Alyanna Brown 175-170.  In Match 2, Soluri outlasted David Drake 233-225.  In the semi-final, Soluri beat Robert Patrula 197-184.  This set up another title match of #1 vs #5.  In this case, #5 was victorious.  Elle Soluri defeated Tournament Leader Siyah Sweeny 175-170 to take home the title and the $200 top scholarship prize.

Congrats also to Hayden Capper on his 11 in a row 290 game during qualifying.  Also, Olivia Farwell shot 811 in match play for her 3 games.  Great job to both!
