Teams of Shirk/Mastroiani & Bowman/Carpenter Win Doubles Event at 222 Dutch

The PJBT continued its 21st Season with a return trip to 222 Dutch Lanes for our first ever 21 & Under Doubles Event at Dutch.  On this day, 100 bowlers….50 in each division (25 teams each)…took to the lanes.  Format for this doubles event was 5 games, top 40% of teams bowl another 3 games and then top 5 teams advance to baker format stepladder final.

In Scratch, Aliza Shirk & Anthony Mastroianni captured the victory.  They both had a solid qualifying round of team games of 414, 431, 481, 442 and 500.  They were near the top of the leaderboard entering Round 2 of qualifying.  The second round saw consistent team games of 423, 435, and 426 to be at +352 for 8 games and seeded 2nd entering the finals.  Shirk/Mastroianni entered the finals in the semi-final match vs Chloe O’Donnell & Parker Laubach.  O’Donnell/Laubach was the #5 seed and had won their first two matches.  In a close match, Shirk/Mastroianni outlasted O’Donnell/Laubach 205-200.  That advanced them to the title match vs tournament leaders James Carnal/Lucas Francis.  Shirk/Mastroianni got off to a fast start and never looked back.  They defeated Carnal/Francis in the title match 233-182 to take home the title and a $400 team scholarship.

In Handicap, Michael Bowman & Isaac Carpenter put on a dominant performance in route to victory.  They entered the event with a team average of 302 and 88 pins handicap per game.  They bowled scratch team games of 385, 380, 363, 369, and 374.  They were the leaders entering Round 2.  In that round, they bowled 344, 399, and 360 to maintain their tournament lead entering the finals.  In the title baker match, Bowman/Carpenter took on #5 seed Kalli Bzdil/Genna Closs.  In a close title match, Bowman/Carpenter defeated Bzdil/Closs 189-169 to win and take home the $400 Scholarship.

This event saw over $2000 in scholarships given away to over 20+ different bowlers in this event.  No honor scores were rolled on this day.
