The PJBT continued its 20th Anniversary Season with our 2nd Annual Bonus Payout Combined Event with the Junior Bowlers Tour (JBT) from New Jersey.  This event was created to bring our bowling tours together for a big extra payout event.  The format for the combined event was our 8 Game Marathon.  Every bowler bowled 8 games of qualifying and the top 8 advanced to the single elimination bracket final.  Each match in the finals was 2 games total pins.  Prizes were awarded to all top 8 finalists in each division.  This year’s event saw 33 Scratch bowlers take to the lanes while 29 Handicap Bowlers competed.  Event was conducted on a Kegel Challenge Pattern.

In Scratch, Matthew Ward of Clayton, Delaware, captured his 1st PJBT/JBT Victory of the season.  Ward was near the top of the leaderboard all day.  He shot games of 225, 277, 237, 257, 236, 236, 204, and 225 during qualifying.  He was at +297 for 8 games and was seeded 2nd of 8 bowlers advancing to the bracket final.  The 8th place cut to make the finals was a tie at +212.  The tie was broken and won by #8 Paige Boyd.  In the bracket final, #2 Ward began his title run with a match vs #7 Isaac Erickson.  Ward shot 213 and 230 to defeat Erickson 443-403.  In Ward’s semifinal match, he took on #3 seed Joey Ocello.  Ward came out hot with a 268 game and never looked back.  Ward defeated Ocello 491-437.  This advanced Ward to the title match vs #8 Paige Boyd.  Boyd was also on an impressive run….defeating the #1 seed and #4 seed bowlers to advance into the title match.  Ward continued to bowl big games in the final.  He shot 243 and 236 for 497.  Ward defeated Boyd 497-397 to win the title.  Ward won a $250 scholarship for his victory and plaque for his win.

In Handicap, David Swavely, of Sanatoga, PA, won his 1st PJBT/JBT of the year.  Swavely entered the event with a 196 entering average and 3 pins handicap per game.  He started HOT with a scratch game of 268.  Swavely followed it up with solid games of 229, 204, 214, 198, 197, 218, and 189.  Swavely was at +141 for 8 games and captured the #4 position of the 8 bowlers in the finals.  8th place cut after 8 games was +88.  In the bracket final, #4 Swavely took on #5 Haley Brown in match one.  Swavely bowled big scratch games of 245 and 264 for 515.  He easily won Match 1 515-409.  This advanced him to take on #8 Vincent Biehn.  This match went very similar with Swavely bowling big games.  He had 234 and 217 for 457.  Swavely defeated Biehn 457-354.  It was then onto his title match vs #2 seed Brandon Smith.  Swavely trailed after game 1 of the match when he shot 187….but Game 2 of the match sealed the title.  Swavely shot 255 scratch and won the match in dominating fashion 448-355 over Brandon Smith.  The win earned David Swavely a $250 scholarship and plaque for his victory.

Congrats also to Morgan Gitlitz, who shot the only honor score of the day.  She had an 11-in-a-row 290 game during the first round of the bracket final.
