The PJBT conducted our 5th Junior Gold Only Qualifier Tournament of the Season on Saturday, February 6th, 2016.  These events are strictly qualifiers for our youth bowlers to qualify for the Junior Gold National Championships (national youth event).  This year’s event will be held in July 2016 in Indianapolis.  Our prior 4 events qualified 26 bowlers and we added 6 more to our crew on this day.  The event saw a total of 40 bowlers compete for 6 available spots.

On this day, we qualified 3 Bowlers (1 Boy, 2 Girls) in the U20 Divisions and 3 Bowlers (2 Boys, 1 Girl) in the U15 Divisions.  We didn’t have enough entries to run a U12 Division so our U12 Bowler combined with the U15 Boys Qualifier.  The event was conducted on the challenging WTBA Atlanta Pattern.

In U20 Boys, Ben Rynes, of Maryland, won his Junior Gold spot.  For the 4 game qualifier, he shot games of 195, 209, 176, and 213 for 793 or -7.   He won the qualifier by 70 pins over 2nd place bowler Bryan Bilanin.

In U20 Girls, the battle came down to the final game.  The leaders fluctuated throughout the day.  In the end, Lauren VanDaniker won the qualifier with a 4 Game Total of 755 or -45.  In 2nd place, also winning her spot, was Anastasia Nolt.  Anastasia snuck into the 2nd position on the leaderboard when she shot 232 her final game of qualifying to get to 750 or -50.  She passed the 3rd place girl by just 22 pins.

In the combined U15 and U12 Boys, Scott Garrett won the qualifier.  Scott shot a high game in Game 3 of qualifying.  He had a 245.  That game allowed him to win the qualifier with a 4 game total of 762 or -38.  In 2nd place, Aidan D’Souza won his spot also.  Aidan shot the high game of the tournament day with a 253 game in Game 2 of qualifying.  He finished at 743 or -57.  He was ahead of the 3rd place bowler by 34 pins.

In the U15 Girls Division, Emily Garl won her spot into Junior Gold.  Emily had strong book-end games of 174 and 175 to finish at 636 for 4 games or -164.  She won the qualifier by just 24 pins over the 2nd place girl.

With this event, the PJBT now has 32 bowlers qualified for Junior Gold and we still have 6 more qualifying events to go for this year.  Our next one will be held Sunday March 13, 2016 at Haja Rose Bowl in Allentown, PA.
