The PJBT continued its 17th Season with our Easter Saturday Classic Tournament. Unlike years ago, the PJBT doesn’t have many events on Saturdays anymore due to youth commitments with leagues and other tournaments. However, every year we have an Easter Classic Saturday Tournament due to the holiday.
This years’ Easter Event saw 64 bowlers compete… 28 Scratch & 36 Handicap. The pattern was the House Shot and the format was our normal 5 game qualifier with 40% of each field advancing to match play. After 3 Games of Match play, the top 5 bowlers advance to the stepladder final. On this day, we paid additional scholarships to 6th in Scratch and 6th/7th in Handicap.
In Scratch, Dylan Zimmerman of Harrisburg, captured the season high 6th title of the year. This win was Zimmerman’s 8th career PJBT but his 6th of this year….which is now higher than any bowler currently in PJBT competition. Zimmerman came out of the gate strong on a day when scores were high! He shot 249, 278, 258, 212, and 265 for 1262 or (+262). Zimmerman led the 28 bowler Scratch field after qualifying. The 12th place cut off score to advance after Round 1 was +103 or 1103. In Match Play, Zimmerman started with only 184 and lost his match. That was his only low point of the day. He followed up the 184 with back-to-back 279 games to win 2 of his 3 matches. He stood at +464 and was the tournament leader entering the stepladder finals. In the title match, Zimmerman took on 2nd seed Jarrett Defalco. Defalco also had a great run but his line gave out in the title match. It looked as though he couldn’t get deep enough inside to hold his ball reaction. He shot 269 in the semi-final match….but in the final shot only 160. Zimmerman shot 241 and won the title 241-160 over Defalco. Defalco finished 2nd, followed by Alex Glinski, Joey Ciufo, and Alyssa Berke. 6th place finisher Aidan D’Souza also got a scholarship. Zimmerman took home the top prize of $200 and trophy.
In Handicap, Zachary Prizer, captured his 1st ever PJBT title. Prizer entered the event with a 143 average in his 1st event. He shot scratch games of 164, 167, 175, 195, and 148. With his handicap, he stood at +104 but was only tied for 7th place. Prizer trailed the qualifying leader Aaron Weaver by 66 pins. In Match play, Prizer made his run. The 14th place cutoff score to advance was +77. He went 3-0 in match play with scores of 197, 160, and 197. This undefeated match play round propelled Prizer into the tournament lead by just 6 pins entering the finals. In the title match, Prizer took on #2 seed Amanda Zappacosta. Their title match came down the 10th frame….but in the end….Prizer defeated Zappacosta 209-194 to win the title and the $200 scholarship. Zappacosta finished 2nd, followed by Desmond Brown, Kyle Bowersox, and Aaron Weaver. 6th place finisher Chloe Skurzynski, and 7th place finisher Mason Doan, also won scholarships.
No honor scores were bowled on this day….many 279 games but no honor scores. 300 Pot of $125 carries over to next week.
