The PJBT continued our 19th season with a new event on our schedule. For the first time in PJBT History, we traveled to one of our new centers we added this year. Our host was Midway Lanes in Carlisle PA. Midway Lanes, which opened in 1956, used to be a 36 lane wood center. Couple of years ago, 4 lanes were removed and a stage installed for live bands and music to go with their restaurant and snack bar on the low end of the house. So 32 wood lanes were our host for Adult Junior #4 of the year.
On this day, 84 bowlers or 42 adult junior teams, 21 in Each Division, took on the Big Ben Pattern at Midway. Format was 5 games, top 40% of teams bowl 3 more games. At completion of 8 games, top 4 teams advanced to finals with an eliminator style format. 4 Teams Bowled 1 Game….low team out. 3 Teams Bowled 1 game….low team out. Top 2 teams bowl for title.
In Scratch, Team USA member Anthony Neuer and his professional bowler dad, Andy Neuer, took home the title. The Neuer’s had bowled well all day. They started off with strong consistent qualifying games of 441, 472, 469, 442, and 467. After qualifying they sat in 2nd place of 21 Scratch Teams. They only trailed tournament leaders Brandon Updike & Brittany Himmelreich. Updike and Himmelreich were bowling amazing and led the field by over 100 pins after qualifying. In Round 2, Neuer’s went 452, 406, and 495. They ran down Updike & Himmelreich but still trailed them by 6 pins entering the 4 teams final. The finals were #1 Updike/Himmelreich – Neuer’s were the #2 seed – #3 Gene Blair/Jack Celmer & #4 Isaac Erickson/Neal Vital. In the first eliminator, Neuer’s shot the high team game of 526. Erickson/Vital had 465, Updike/HImmelreich 429, and Blair/Celmer were eliminated with 426. In the semi-final eliminator, #1 seed Updike/Himmelreich were eliminated when shooting 349. Erickson/Vital shot 461 and Neuer’s 433 so they could advance to the final. In the title match, #2 Neuer’s took on #4 Erickson/Vital. In a close battle, Neuer’s outlasted Erickson/Vital 397-372 to take the win. Anthony Neuer won a $200 scholarship and plaque for his win while Andy Neuer received $150 cash and plaque for their victory.
In Handicap, First -Time PJBT bowlers Shawn & Romayne Palmer dominated! The Palmer’s led the event of 21 handicap teams from start to finish! They entered the event with a 312 team average and 79 pins a game handicap. They shot scratch team games of 329, 349, 327, 373, and 376. This propelled them to the lead entering Round 2. In Round 2, the Palmer’s shot 358, 330, and 300. After 8 games, they were at 3374 (+174) and lead the field into the 4 team final. The finals was #1 Palmer’s, #2 Spencer Hockensmith/DJ Brown, #3 Severo & Dan Gordon, and #4 Jody Royer/Chase Attig-Chavez. In the first eliminator final, Palmer’s shot the highest team game of 396. Royer/Attig-Chavez shot 384 and Gordon’s had 378 to advance. The team out was Hockensmith/Brown with their team game of only 327. The next round saw the Palmer’s shoot the high team game again of 419. The Gordon’s also advanced to the final shooting 381. The team of Royer/Attig-Chavez shot 344 and was eliminated. The title match was #1 vs #3, Palmer’s vs the Gordon’s. Title match was close to the end but Palmer’s best the Gordon’s 373-347 to take the title. Shaun Palmer won a $200 scholarship and award while Romayne Palmer won a $150 cash prize and plaque for their victory.
PJBT also wants to congratulate Adult Bowler Matt Schazenberger, who shot our only honor score of the day….a Perfect 300 Game! Total for the event we gave away over $2,000 in prizes!
