The PJBT continued its 21st Season with one of our favorite team events of the season.  This week was our Bowling Center Championship Team Tournament.  This event was created years ago to promote our local youth bowling programs.  The youth bowl as teams from their home bowling centers.  They bowl for scholarships and our winning team in each division receive a $500 cash donation to their junior league program.

This year’s event was 23 teams of 5 (115 bowlers) competing on a tough kegel created #10 pattern for our Major Event.  We had 10 teams in scratch and 13 teams in handicap.  Format was 5 team games….top 4 teams advance to the finals with 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 in one game single elimination match.  Winners bowl 1 game against each other to win the title.

In Scratch, the team from Berks Lanes in Sinking Spring, PA, takes home the win.  The team was made up of Riley Celmer/Charlize Wanner/Ambrose Shirk/Darren Zombro III & Kolby Bennett.  Berks Lanes shot qualifying team games of 830, 973, 912, 1061, and 927.  On a day when scores were low…the team game of 1061 was the highest bowled of the day by any team.  Berks was seeded 2nd behind tournament leaders Howell Lanes.   Berks took on Town & Country Lanes in their semi-final match.  In a low-scoring battle match, Berks outlasted Town & Country Lanes by just 5 pins to win 813-808.  This advanced them to the title match vs their sister center Limerick Bowl.  Limerick was seeded #4 and took down #1 Howell Lanes 978-874.  In the title match, Berks beat Limerick 970-937 to take home the win!  Each bowler on Berks’ winning team won a $200 scholarship and plaque.  A check of $500 donation was made to Berks Lanes Junior League Program.

In Handicap, Leisure Lanes of Lancaster, PA, took home the victory.  The Leisure Lanes team was made up of Isabel Santiago, Abraham Santiago, Aryon Chase, Corrine Smith, and Priest McKenzie.  Leisure’s team average was 652 and got 313 pins handicap per game.  Their scratch team games was 612, 652, 616, 634, and 663.  This put Leisure Lanes at -258 and was seeded 3rd entering the finals.  In their semi-final match, Leisure Lanes took on #2 seed Howell Lanes.  In a close single game match, Leisure squeaked out a victory over Howell Lanes by just 12 pins 792-780.  This advanced Leisure into a title match vs Palmyra Bowling Center #2 team.  In a back-and-forth title match, Leisure outlasted Palmyra 754-725 to take home the victory.  Each bowler on Leisure’s team won a $200 scholarship and plaque.  A check of $500 donation was made to Leisure Lanes Junior Program with their team win.

Thanks to all the teams that came out for this first ever team event at Limerick.  No honor scores were bowled on this day.
