The PJBT continued its 21st Season with a trip to Harrisburg and ABC East Lanes for our annual January Major Event.  This year’s event saw 61 bowlers competing….29 in Scratch and 32 in Handicap.  This major event was 6 games qualifying, top 40% bowl 3 games match play….and then top 6 advance to 2 shootouts and 1 stepladder for the final.

In Scratch, Brandon Bohn of Howell, NJ, captured the Scratch title.  Brandon is one of the two sons of PBA Hall-Of-Famer Parker Bohn III.  Brandon qualified 5th out of 29 bowlers after 6 games of qualifying.  His 3rd game of qualifying boosted him up the leaderboard when he shot 239 on a tough pattern.  He began with 172 and 211 and finished with a 194, 210, and 201 games for +27 after 6.  The 12th place qualifying cut score was -59 for 6 games.  In match play, Bohn went 2-1 and moved up to 4th place out of 6 bowlers making the finals.  To win, Bohn would have to win both shootout matches and a stepladder match.  That is what he did!  Bohn defeated Ambrose Shirk & Jordan Schell in Shootout 1 by the scores of 204-189-183.  Bohn advanced to Shootout 2 vs Darren Zombro III & Ryan Mitskavich.  Result was the same.  Bohn won 221-203-135.  This advanced Bohn to take on tournament leader Parker Laubach for the title.  In an exciting title match, Bohn outlasted Laubach 227-208 to win the title.  Brandon Bohn won a $300 scholarship and glass bowling pin for his win.

In Handicap, A’La Harris of Claymont, DE, got her first PJBT title of the year.  Harris entered the event with 153 average and 42 pins handicap per game.  She shot scratch games in qualifying of 174, 181, 146, 142 ,157, and 191.  After 6 games, Harris was at +43 and in 3rd place of 32.  The 14th place 1st cut was -69.  Harris won all three of her match play matches and moved from 3rd to the leader of the event entering the finals.  As the tournament leader, Harris took on #3 seed Austin Knepp for the title.  In a nail-biter type match….Harris squeaked out a 173-165 victory over Knepp to win.  A’La Harris won a $300 scholarship and glass bowling pin for his win.
