Lenk & Sprenkle Capture Victory in Final Regular Season Event Season 17

The PJBT finished off our 17th Season with a regular season singles event at Colony Park Lanes North in York, PA.  On this day, 61 bowlers competed….of the 61, 35 were in Scratch and 26 in Handicap.  This event was conducted on a house pattern.  This event determined our season champions.   The final battle on points for scratch played out.  Would it be Zimmerman or Glinski?  The drama played out better than a novel.  You couldn’t write a script better than this one.

In Scratch, Daniel Lenk, captured his 1st ever PJBT title.  Lenk was near the top of the leaderboard all day.  He shot qualifying games of 245, 236, 227, 275, and 185 for 1168 (+168).  He was seeded 4th after qualifying.  The top 14 cut for advancement was +85 for 5 games.  Ironically, Zimmerman led Glinski by 11 points in point standings.  Glinski needed to finish 3 spots higher than Zimmerman to win the points title.  After qualifying, Glinski WAS the cut (14th place) at +85.  Zimmerman missed the cut by 11 pins and was the first bowler to miss the cut — he finished 15th.  At this point, Glinski needed to finish 12th or higher to win the points title but only stood in 14th entering match play.  Back to Lenk….Lenk went 2-1 in Match Play shooting 210 (L), 215 (W), and 277 (W).  After 8 games, Lenk stood at +330 and was the tournament leader entering the stepladder finals.  In the battle for points, Glinski shot games of 279 with a win.  He was up to 5th place.  He won his 2nd game but lost his 3rd game of match play with just a 174 scratch game.  Glinski fell to 9th place on the board but finished there.  It was enough to overtake Zimmerman and win the points title.  In the final match of stepladders, Lenk took on Jason Waltman for the tournament title.  The match was close throughout but Lenk outlasted Waltman 239-227 to win the title and the $200 top scholarship prize.

In Handicap, Jill Sprenkle captured her 2nd career PJBT title.  It was a long time for Sprenkle, as she had not won a PJBT since April 2010.  Over 6 years later, on this day, she got her title.  She entered the event with a 188 average and 10 handicap pins per game.  She shot scratch games of 204, 256, 163, 254, and 258 to lead the field after qualifying.  She stood at +185 and was the leader by 88 pins over 2nd place.  The 12th place qualifying cut was +17.  Sprenkle maintained her lead going 3-0 in match play with games of 245, 193, and 179.  Sprenkle kept a 30 pin lead and was the tournament leader entering the finals.  In the final match, Sprenkle took on surging bowler Darren Zombro III.  Zombro entered the finals as the 5th seed and won 3 straight matches to make it to the final.  Sprenkle started off leading the match and Zombro struggled to get going.  Sprenkle held on and defeated Zombro in the title match 170-141.  Sprenkle won the title and the $200 top scholarship prize.

Also, Congratulations to Ben Rynes for shooting a perfect game 300 for $23 in the 300 Pot….and to Corey O’Neill who also had a perfect 300 Game during Match Play (no pot).
