The PJBT continued its 16th season with an every year classic! It was our Major Event on Super Bowl Sunday. Our 7th major event of the season saw 83 bowlers take on the Montreal Pattern. Despite some weather concerns, no snow stopped us on this day. We had 50 bowlers in scratch and 33 bowlers in handicap. The format for this major event was 6 game qualifier, top 40% bowled 3 games of match play. After 9 Games, the top 4 bowlers advanced to final. Leader received a bye…seeds 2/3/4 bowled a 1 game shootout. Winner advanced to bowl tournament leader in a 1 game match for the title.
The scratch division came down to the last frame of the tournament. Alex Glinski captured his 3rd title of the season, becoming the first bowler to have 3 titles on the season. Glinski led the tournament after the 6 game qualifier. Glinski shot 1321 for 6 and led the field at +121. In match play, Glinski maintained his lead through match play and was the tournament leader entering the final match. In the scratch shootout, Michael Martell defeated Ryan Graham & Jantson Reiss 216-183-176. It was Glinski & Martell for the title. The final match was a great example why a match is not over until all frames are rolled. Martell got out to a slight lead during the game and forced Glinski to strike out to stay in the match. Glinski finished first and did not strike out, shooting 221. Martell knew that all he needed was a mark in the 10th frame to win. His shot in the 10th frame went wide of target and he left a 3-7 split. At this point, he knew he had to make the spare or he just lost the match. He attempts to make the spare and misses the 3 pin to the right….getting (8-0) in the 10th frame and losing the match to Glinski. Glinski defeated Martell 226-221 to take home the title and the $300 top scholarship prize.
The handicap division saw Tana MacFeat capture her 1st PJBT title. Tana was seeded 2nd out of 33 bowlers after the 6 game qualifying round with a score of 1221 or +21. At the time, she only trailed tournament leader Isaac Erickson. In match play, MacFeat made her move. She won all 3 of her matches and propelled herself into the lead of the tournament entering the finals. In the handicap shootout, Mackenzie Chesko edged out Alexis Miller & Brendan Hunsicker 208-207-197 in a close match. The title match was 2 females…MacFeat and Chesko. This match was also very exciting….came down to the 10th frame. Chesko was forced to double in the 10th frame to win. On the first ball of the 10th, she went high and did not strike…making the win for MacFeat official. Tana McFeat defeated Mackenzie Chesko in the title match 154-149 to take home the title and the $300 top scholarship prize.
The PJBT gave away over $1,800 in scholarship on this day and we saw the 300 Pot not hit for a record-setting 12th week….leaving the pot at a record high $302 entering next week’s event at Mountainville Bowl.
