-The PJBT continued its 17th Season with our 3rd event of the season. This event was our traditional Labor Day Weekend Marathon Event at Bowl-O-Rama in Reading, PA. The special marathon format saw all bowlers bowl 8 games of qualifying….with the top 8 advancing to a bracket final. The bracket consisted of 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, and 4 vs 5 in a 2-game total pins match, single elimination. For a 3rd straight week, we saw a great turnout for this Marathon Event. We had a total of 90 entries; 51 in Scratch and 39 in Handicap. Bowlers took on the New Kegel Stonehedge Pattern.
In Scratch, Alex Glinski captured his 1st title of the season in dominate fashion. Glinski shot 1964 (+364) for 8 games of qualifying. Scores were 224-203-259-279-256-244-290-209. Glinski was the top seed entering the top 8 bracket final. In the Quarterfinal round, Glinski took on #8 seed Dave Callahan. Their match started as a strike fest….as Glinski shot 278 and Callahan 258….but it was a 2-game match. Glinski shot 215 in Game 2 for a total of 493 and beat Callahan who had 461. Glinski then took on #5 seed Chris Diapola in the semi-final round. Glinski got a strong lead in this match early when he shot 192 and Diapola only had 151. Glinski shot 267 in Game 2 of the total pins match and defeated Diapola 459-332. This advanced Glinski into the title match with #3 seed Eric Erb. Erb, who won last week and finished 3rd in our opening season event….was about to finish in the top 3 for the 3rd straight week. Erb started off in this match taking the lead….shooting 236 while Glinski shot 226. However, Game 2 decided the title as Glinski shot 236 for a total of 460 while Erb shot 204 and only had 440. Glinski defeated Erb 460-440. Glinski won the $200 top scholarship prize.
In Handicap, Caden Duff captured his 1st title of the season. Duff also was the top seed entering the finals….as Duff led the Handicap field after 8 Games. Duff shot 1218 scratch for 8 games. With his handicap, he was at 1794 or +194. In his first match, Duff took on #8 Francis Vitelli. Duff got off to a strong start with a 238 game and never looked back. Duff shot 465 for 2 games and defeated Vitelli 465-378. Duff advanced to take on #6 Lexi Kile in a semi-final match. Duff dodged a tough opponent in Kile. Duff won the first part of their match by 20 pins 220-200 but Kile shot 228 in Game 2 of the match while Duff shot 212. Duff got the victory over Kile by just 4 pins ….432-428. Duff then advanced to the title match vs #7 seed Liz Hunsicker. Duff shot 244 in Game 1 of this final match and never looked back. Duff defeated Hunsicker in the title match 445-334 to take home the title and the $200 top scholarship prize.
Congrats also to Brian Kennedy who shot 300 on this day and won the $25 300 Pot. Also, Anthony Neuer shot an 11 in a row 290 while Alex Glinski shot 290 and converted the 7-10 split! It was a great day on the lanes for our bowlers.
