The PJBT continued it’s 17th season with one of its largest events of the year.  In a continued effort to promote junior bowling in our area….we held the 4th Annual Bowling Center Championship Tournament.  Teams of 5 are made up from the bowling centers we conduct events at during the years.   This event is unique because the youth are not just bowling for scholarships but the top winning centers also receive a $500 donation from the PJBT to their junior program.

This year’s event had 39 teams of 5 or 195 bowlers competing.  We had 13 scratch teams and 26 handicap teams.  All bowlers took on the new Kegel Gateway Arch Pattern for competition.

In Scratch, Imperial Lanes of Milton, PA, captured the title.   Imperial shot games of 1163 early to take the lead on the leaderboard.  They followed it up with games of 1006, 1031, 1046, and 991.  This seeded them 2nd entering the finals.  They only trailed Oakwood Lanes of New Jersey by 5 pins entering the finals.  Oakwood shot a big team game of 1174 in Game 5 to take the lead.  In the final, Imperial Lanes took on Leisure Lanes in the semi-final match.    Imperial squeaked out a victory over Leisure head-to-head 1040-1017.  This advanced them to the title match vs Berks Lanes, and the defending champions of the event.  In the title match, both teams traded shots.  The match was close throughout but Imperial Lanes ended on top.  They defeated Berks Lanes 959-917 to take home the title.  Each youth bowler received a $200 individual scholarship and Imperial Lanes won the $500 check for their junior program.

In Handicap, Cypress Lanes of Lehighton, PA, captured their 2nd center title in this event.  Cypress won our original event in Handicap 3 years ago.  Cypress shot games of 721, 814, 829, 766, and 773 scratch.  With their handicap, they had a demanding lead at +323 of 6 teams entering the finals.  In the semi-final, Cypress Lanes took on Oakwood Lanes of NJ.  The match was again shot for shot but Cypress survived.  Cypress beat Oakwood 953-890.   Cypress then advanced to the title match vs Town & Country Lanes.  Cypress got off to a hot start and never looked back.  They defeated Town & Country in the title match 963-806.  Each youth bowler got a $200 scholarship and Cypress won a $500 check for their junior program.

For all the 6 teams that made the finals, we gave out over $4,600 in scholarships.

Congrats to Mark Artley who shot a perfect game 300 during qualifying….but he was not in the 300 Pot!  The pot is at $235 for next week.
