Carlisi/Vitelli & Hertzog/Gillenwater-Hertzog Win Doubles Event at Parkway Lanes

The PJBT continued its 20th Anniversary Season with a return visit to Parkway Lanes in Allentown PA for our 2nd 21 & Under Doubles Event of the Season.  This event teams up any bowlers under the age of 21 together to compete for scholarships.  On this day, we had 86 bowlers competing….43 teams.  We had 17 scratch teams and 26 Handicap Teams.  Teams bowled 5 games of qualifying and top 40% of teams bowled an additional 3 games of qualifying.  After 8 games, the top 5 teams advanced to a baker format stepladder final.

In Scratch, Ryan Carlisi & Francis Vitelli of New Jersey captured the victory.  The team of Carlisi/Vitelli came out strong with qualifying team games of 405, 473, 419, 462, and 471.  These scores put them near the top of the leaderboard entering Round 2 of qualifying.  In Round 2, they shot solid qualifying games to maintain the lead of the event.  They shot games of 410, 387, and 495.  After 8 games, Carlisi/Vitelli led the event at +322.  They entered the stepladder finals as the leaders.  In the title match, they took on Tony Lutz/Zachary Trimmer.  Carlisi/Vitelli shot 245 and won convincingly over Lutz/Trimmer 245-156.  Carlisi/Vitelli each won $200 scholarship for their win and a plaque for their victory.

In Handicap, Ian Hertzog & Charles Gillenwater-Hertzog won their first ever PJBT event on this day.  Hertzog/Gillenwater-Hertzog entered the event with a 346 entering team average and 48 pins handicap per game.  Hertzog/Gillenwater-Hertzog shot scratch games of 385, 335, 432, 356, and 370.  They were also near the top of the leaderboard after qualifying.  In Round 2, they moved to the top of the leaderboard with games of 396, 377, and 387.  After 8 games, Hertzog/Gillenwater-Hertzog stood at +222 and led the field entering the stepladder final.  The title match saw Hertzog/Gillenwater-Hertzog take on #4 seed Ella Luzzi/Shania Jennings.  The title match was epic!  It came down to a last shot in the 10th for the title.  In the end, Hertzog/Gillenwater-Hertzog outlasted Luzzi/Jennings 187-185 to win.  Ian & Charles each earned a $200 scholarship for their win.

No honor scores were bowled on this day.  Thanks to all 86 bowlers who came out on this day.  In all, we gave out over $2,000 in scholarships to 22 different people.
