Zimmerman & Moore Win 2016 PA PJBT Masters Titles

The PJBT continued its postseason for Season 17 with our 3rd Annual PA PJBT Masters Tournament, sponsored by Bowlerx.com.  Thanks to Bowlerx for sponsoring this event.  The PA PJBT Masters gave out over $7,000 in scholarships.

The Masters Tournament was an event started 3 years ago to celebrate our 15th Anniversary Season in 2014.  The Masters in a 2-day format event in which all our competing athletes bowl 10 games of qualifying on two separate oil patterns.  The format is for each bowler to start by bowling a 5 game qualifier on one pattern.  After a lunch break, each bowler bowls 5 additional games of qualifying.  After 10 games, the top 16 bowlers in each division advance to our double-elimination bracket final.  Bracket final consisted of 2 game matches.  This format continued for each round of the bracket until we got down   The winner takes home a top prize of $1500 in Scratch and $1000 in Handicap.

This year’s Masters athletes won qualifiers during the year to obtain a spot in this event.  This year’s event had 70 bowlers competing, including 43 in Scratch and 27 in Handicap.

Dylan Zimmerman of the Harrisburg PA area, took home the Masters Title.  Dylan was one of our top youth bowlers for the entire 2015-2016 PJBT Season.  He topped off a highly successful season with a title in this big Masters Event.  Zimmerman qualified 8th after the 10 game qualifying round.  Zimmerman went -71 for 10 games.  In the double-elimination final, Zimmerman battled to the victory. He began the bracket with a 2 game match vs #9 Aidan D’Souza.  Zimmerman defeated D’Souza 386-290.  In the 2nd round, #8 Zimmerman took on our top seed #1 Michael Martell.  Martell set the pace during qualifying, going +235 for 10 games.  Zimmerman lost this match to Martell 408-397.  Zimmerman then dropped into the contenders bracket and had to work hard to make the final.  #8 Zimmerman took on #2 seed Adam Zimmerman in his first contenders bracket match.  Dylan defeated Adam 390-349 to advance.  #8 Zimmerman then took on #11 Walter Tomlin.  Zimmerman defeated Tomlin 381-349.  This advanced Zimmerman to another matchup vs Michael Martell.  Zimmerman got the best of him in this match…defeating Martell 390-339.  This advanced Zimmerman into the final 3-person contenders match for the televised finals.  It was Chris Diapola, Dylan Zimmerman, and Greg Tack.  All 3 were bowling to determine the #2 and #3 seeds for the finals.  Zachary Dragovits, our current PJBT Player-of-the-Year was locked in as the top seed.  In the contenders final, Zimmerman was high with 443 and earned the #2 seed into the finals.  Greg Tack shot 379 and beat Chris Diapola’s 375 to advance as the 3 seed in the finals.

For the finals, 2 stepladder matches.  Match 1 was #2 Zimmerman vs #3 seed Greg Tack.  Winner advanced to bowl Dragovits for the title.  Zimmerman defeated Tack 213-195.  In the title match, it was a battle of our 2 best bowlers of the year.  On this day, Zimmerman was victorious.  Zimmerman defeated Dragovits 208-162 to take home the $1500 top prize.  Remaining prize list below.

In Handicap, Thomas Moore took home the $1000 top prize.  Moore entered the event with a league high average of 99.  He qualified 4th for the finals by going -20 after 10 games.  Thomas was the highest qualifying boy in Handicap.  He only trailed tournament leader Ally McGinley, 2nd place Allison Stackewicz, and 3rd seed Abigail Wolfe.  In the bracket final, Moore started with a match vs #13 seed Noah Pearce.    Moore won a dominating match 434-286.  Moore advanced to his next match vs Chloe Skurzynski.  Just like in scratch, Moore lost his 2nd match in the winners bracket 396-387.  This moved Moore into the contenders bracket.  His first match was vs Jocelyn Hood.  Moore defeated Hood 385-363.  He then took on Alyssa Sauer in the next match.  Moore dominated the match and won 405-322.  This win advanced Moore to another matchup with Skurzynski, but this time in the lower bracket.  Moore got the best of Skurzynski this time, winning 453-344.  This advanced Moore into the 3 person final contenders match.  Moore was bowling vs Emily Skurzynski and Ally McGinley.  Top 2 advance to finals.  Moore led shooting 440 and earned the #2 seed while Ally McGinley shot 399 and was the 3rd seed.  Emily shot 350 and was eliminated.

In the televised finals, Thomas Moore took on Ally McGinley in the first match.  Winner advanced to bowl Allison Stackewicz for the title.  Moore defeated McGinley 153-138.  In the title match, Moore outlasted Stackewicz 175-168 and took the $1000 top prize and title.  Remainder of Payouts listed below.

In this event, we also paid out lots of scholarships in sidepots.
